Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is an Awarding Body?

An 'Awarding Body' is a regulated awarding organisation, meaning it's responsible for developing and awarding qualifications. The majority of the qualifications that we offer have been developed by SFJ Awards. As the training provider, we are responsible for developing a programme which meets the standards and criteria set out by the awarding body. Xact is approved by SFJ Awards as an Accredited Centre for registration and assessment of their national fire safety qualifications.

  • Can I book a course for my organisation?

We offer private courses and qualifications for organisations looking to book over 10 individuals at once. Organisational programmes can be organised at a time and place that suits you; if you have a suitable space in or nearby your HQ, we can come to you. Alternatively, we can host the course on our online platform (iVC).

If you would like to speak to us further about booking an organisational programme, please contact our qualifications team here.

  • What is the difference between a Course and Qualification?

Our qualifications are regulated by an awarding body (SFJ Awards and ABBE) and based on National Occupational Standards (NOS). Most qualifications are made up of a series of courses that follow specific criteria for achievement set by the awarding body.

While courses are typically shorter and focus on delivering knowledge, qualifications take longer to complete and provide formal recognition of your knowledge and skills.

  • Do I need to have prior learning?

Each qualification has it's own specified prior knowledge/learning requirement. To see specific details, visit the relevant qualification or see our full brochure.

  • What is a Qualification Registration Fee?

Before you start learning for your qualification, we are required to register you with the awarding body. Each time you are registered for a qualification, there is a small fee which will be covered in your overall qualification cost.
