Option to qualify with new BS 9251: Sprinkler Design Course

XACT is pleased to announce an update to its BS 9251 Design program with our first up-graded design courses and qualification currently in progress following the HSE becoming the Building Safety Regulator.

We now also offer a second, four-day, follow-on course, enabling delegates to design Categories 2, 3 and 4 sprinkler systems using Canute FHC Design software.

Course 1 has been extended from three to five days to include all changes under the Building Safety Act and to ensure compliance with the new HSE BSR Building Safety Regulator safety standards.

Offering the option to gain a nationally-recognised Level 3 Certificate in Sprinkler Design, our two sprinkler design programs now address the following:

  • Category 1: Single family dwellings i.e. house, bungalow
  • Category 2: Blocks of flats less than 18m, small care homes
  • Category 3: Large care homes, student accommodation, hostels
  • Category 4:  Residential buildings over 18m

Sprinkler Design Tutor John Moore, who is also the brains behind Canute FHC Design software, said: “This update marks a significant leap forward in boosting competency within the industry to ensure public safety for more complex premises.

“In line with all new legislation and regulation, it is aimed at producing both qualified and competent sprinkler system designers.

“The option to complete a Level 3 qualification, which comes with it, potentially equips delegates with the ability to provide quotations and designs for residential sprinkler systems.”

Achieve the Level 3 Certificate in Residential Sprinkler Design requires the completion of four modules:

Module 1: Five-day course: Category 1 sprinkler system design: Course 1

Module 2: Distance learning: Category 1 and simple Category 2 sprinkler system design and quotations.

Module 3: Four-day course: Complex sprinkler system design: Categories 2, 3 and 4: Course 2.

Module 4: Professional interview: Virtual interview with supporting evidence

Under the changes, delegates, who have previously attended the original three-day course but not the updated programme, simply need to meet prior learning requirements to attend the second course.

Our next available dates are fast-approaching. Book now to secure your places:
