Armed Forces Day 2024

It is Armed Forces Week, with Armed Forces Day taking place on Saturday 29th June 24. This week is an opportunity to show support for the men and women who are a part of our Armed Forces community, including serving troops, families, veterans and cadets.

Xact Consultancy and Training are a registered and approved ELCAS training provider, offering the opportunity for both current and ex force personnel to gain qualifications, without any personal financial contribution and transition into a new career in the fire sector.

Members of the Armed Forces are provided with various levels of fire safety training, dependant on their role. Meaning many leave service with a good understanding of fire safety through their mandatory training. Experience and awareness of how to do routine fire safety checks is an area of importance and one which a lot of personnel end up doing as part of their duties. In addition to this, members of the military hold a range of skills and attributes which would serve the fire industry well – high standards, professionalism, adaptability, attention to detail and an understanding of the importance of compliance. With a growing demand for competent fire safety professionals in an expanding industry, this is an ideal time to utilise those skills and pursue a career in the fire sector. Our ELCAS approved qualifications range from Level 3 to Level 5 and offer a progressive route to delegates, enabling them to work their way up.

Specialist roles within the military will have required individuals to complete specialist training such as the Level 4 Fire Safety Foundation or Practitioner qualifications.  These types of roles can be transitioned easily, with additional qualifications, to work alongside fire safety professionals outside of the service. Especially given that individuals will have had the opportunity to complete fire risk assessments on various premise types, giving them a good understanding of both passive and active fire safety systems and how they link together within premises to protect people or property.

Individuals with experience of working in a specialist fire role within the military can also utilise these skills within a training environment.  Here at Xact, we are proud to have multiple ex-service people working as both tutors and assessors. Dave Moxon, currently working as a Tutor with Xact, previously spent 14 years working in a fire safety role within the RAF. Dave’s experience and knowledge has become an invaluable aspect of the courses he leads, incorporating this into his delivery to make learning richer and more interesting for delegates. Having worked at Xact for nearly 3 years, Dave recently shared that his previous experience completing the workplace trainer course as well as support of the Xact Team has given him “the confidence to delivery courses to persons from various backgrounds both in the public and private sectors”.

“People from a forces background are often more confident and in a lot of cases have completed some workplace trainer instruction which makes teaching an ideal career opportunity. Especially when combining this with their fire safety experience which covers a lot of premise types” – Dave Moxon

Xact Consultancy and Training are proud to be a registered and approved ELCAS training provider as well as being grateful for the expert experience and knowledge of ex-service people who work within our organisation. We hope to continue to deliver top quality training in the fire sector, enabling more members of the Armed Service to utilise ELCAS to transition into a career.
