Case paper preparation

This course enables delegates to compile a professional evidential case file.

Case paper preparation is the final phase of investigation, inspection or enforcement. The quality of this file will hopefully convince legal teams that sufficient evidence exists to support a proposed course of action.

It also aims to secure an appropriate decision in a court or hearing in line with investigator findings.

Those responsible for case paper preparation for all types of hearing or sanction

Aim

To enable delegates to produce well-structured case files containing all relevant evidence and information

Outcomes

To enable delegates to:

  • identify principle content of an evidential file
  • identify evidence required for case disposal and that which will form part of unused material for disposal in accordance with Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996 (CPIA)
  • describe how the integrity and continuity of evidence will be presented to the standard required
  • consider points to prove and quality of evidence to support a particular offence or allegation
  • appraise a case paper file (not ascertain guilt)
  • understand requirements of and create a brief facts summary
  • construct an organised well-structured file

Delivery

The sessions will be delivered using a mix of PowerPoint presentation, flipchart explanation, group discussion, practical examples and case studies to reinforce leaning
