Middle manager investigator course

Target audience

Middle managers who carry out investigations in the workplace.

Aim

To provide delegates with the skills and techniques to conduct investigations required for their role.

Investigation areas

Courses are designed to customer requirements, areas of investigation can include:

  • Discipline and grievance
  • Bullying and harassment
  • Sex, race and age discrimination
  • Accidents in the workplace
  • Complaints

Outcomes

On completion of the course, delegates will be able to:

  • Plan and conduct an investigation
  • Collect, evaluate, review and interpret evidence
  • Conduct effective informal and formal interviews
  • Report on findings with conclusions and recommendations
  • Prepare for and present evidence at formal proceedings

This will be achieved using customers’ policies and procedures.

Learning process

Working in small syndicates delegates will:

  • Analyse a scenario and formulate an investigation plan
  • Discuss their investigation plan with a senior manager
  • Interview role players
  • Prepare a report on their findings, recommendations and conclusion
  • Discuss and review their investigation with a solicitor
  • Present their investigation in formal proceedings

Qualification

Delegates attending this course can receive a BTEC Professional Award or Certificate.

Delivery

The sessions will be delivered using PowerPoint presentations, flipchart explanation, group discussion, individual tuition and practical exercises to reinforce outcomes.
