PACE Interviews
Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984

This course is designed to provide training on the conduct of interviews under caution in accordance with PACE Codes C & E.

It covers all aspects of compliance with the relevant codes and use of recording media. Guidance for management of solicitors and other third parties is also included.

Interview structure and questioning skills, dealing with exhibit management and critical incidents that might occur during interview, are also addressed.

Aim

To enable delegates to comply with the PACE Codes of Practice in relation to suspect interviews

Course outcomes

On course completion, delegates should be able to:

  • identify relevant sections within PACE Codes
  • understand caution and when it must be used
  • understand what constitutes an interview that requires implementation of PACE Codes
  • construct an interview plan
  • prepare for pre-interview disclosure
  • use recording media with confidence
  • manage third parties such as appropriate adults and interpreters
  • implement PEACE model of interviewing
  • use conversation management model
  • identify communication and questioning skills
  • introduce exhibits and other information appropriately
  • prepare interview summaries for evidence
  • understand PACE Section 76 & 78 challenges to interview evidence
