Case paper preparation
This course enables delegates to compile a professional evidential case file.
Case paper preparation is the final phase of investigation, inspection or enforcement. The quality and content of this file will provide the basis for proposed prosecution or other course of action
Target Audience
Those responsible for case paper preparation for all types of hearing or sanction
Aim
To enable delegates to produce well-structured case files containing all relevant evidence and information
Outcomes
To enable delegates to:
- identify principle content and structure of an evidential file
- understand evidence and potential challenges to evidence
- identify points to prove and required evidence to support a particular offence or allegation
- describe relevant legislation and rules in relation to service and admissibility of witness and exhibit evidence (Sec 9 CJA 1967 etc)
- understand material that constitutes evidence required to prove offences and material that forms the unused material section in accordance with disclosure CPIA 1990
- describe completion of sensitive and non-sensitive schedules and disclosure officer report and lawful obligations in relation to disclosure - CPIA
- compile a case summary and summary of comments and observations
- construct an organised, well-structured file
- appraise a case file (not ascertain guilt)
