Trevor Norwood is Managing Director of Xact Consultancy and Training Limited. He set up Xact three years ago after spotting a gap in the market for high quality specialist training in Fire Safety and Investigation.
Under Trevor, Xact has become a leading training provider serving fire services, local authorities and the private sector throughout the UK and increasingly into the rest of Europe and North Africa.
Trevor’s experience at the forefront of training in the UK Fire Service over 30 years informs his directorial strategy for Xact. With Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, he developed the logistical skill that ensures Xact meets the training and consultancy requirements of its many and varied customers.
With the brigade, he held the roles of developer and manager of European Training; station commander; fire investigation officer; project manager and health and safety committee advisor.
As team leader on a two-year European project, he designed, managed and instructed on seminars and courses in Spain, Sweden, Iceland and Germany.
His natural flair for facilitation and tutoring was honed during secondment in the Management Section of the Fire Service College, the UK training centre at Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire. There, he specialised in health and safety, employment, discipline, fire safety and fire investigation.
He also taught group dynamics; coaching and mentoring; team building; resource management; report-writing; presentation skills; planning and leading meetings; employment relations and conflict management.
A member of the Institute of Fire Engineers, Trevor has brought his extensive knowledge and experience to developing innovative areas of training, such as Xact’s flagship courses on sprinkler systems and the code of practice DD 9999 which is currently taking the construction and design sector by storm as it achieves British Standard status this autumn.
Pioneering approaches on the Investigation side include Trevor’s use of breath-takingly realistic reconstructions of courtroom proceedings with professionally trained actors.
