Fire engineering

Target audience

Design Engineers, Fire Safety Professionals, Building Control Officers and Fire Safety Officers.

Aim

To provide delegates with the skills and techniques to advise on fire engineering solutions in new and existing premises.

Outcomes

On completion of the course, delegates will be able to:

  • Identify the relevant codes of practice
  • Appreciate the advantages of natural and mechanical smoke control systems
  • Understand the framework for an engineering approach to fire safety in buildings
  • Discuss the functional design freedoms available
  • Understand the options for a flexible design approach
  • Recognise situations for cost effective solutions

Delegates will also learn to:

  • Offer advice
  • Design a building
  • Assess a buildings design

Delivery

The sessions will be delivered using PowerPoint presentations, flipchart explanation, group discussion, individual tuition and plan based exercises to reinforce outcomes

Course content

The content of each course is designed to customer requirements depending on subject areas and prior knowledge of delegates.

Prior learning

Delegates should have completed the Building Regulations part 2 course or have experience applying Approved Document B and the BS 5588 series.
